Our sense of style can feel incredibly personal. It’s formed by our upbringing, life experiences and personal taste. It can be hard to find an interior designer who understands your unique, one-of-a-kind sensibilities.
Something magical happens when you find a designer you can trust.
After a few projects working together, One of a Kind Interior Design earned the trust of a Denver-based couple. So much trust, in fact, that when the couple wanted to renovate their bedroom, they trusted us to take the lead.
As we looked around the room for inspiration, my gaze landed on a colorful poster hidden behind a desk. It was a vintage Brazil World Cup poster, with bright reds, blues and oranges sweeping across the page. The couple liked the poster, but couldn’t think of how to incorporate it into their new bedroom in a way that felt subtle and mature.
They saw an old poster from the world cup.
I saw inspiration for their Color me Curvy new bedroom.
The couple wanted a bedroom refresh that better reflected their fun personalities. Our job was to find a way to add some creative touches to the solid bones of the room, while ensuring it remained a relaxing and intentional place they could return to after a long day.
Keeping the poster in my head as inspiration, I went shopping to look for some elements that could bring some complimentary color into the room. My creative wheels started spinning when I came across a beautiful color block rug. I knew this rug belonged in the space, but I wasn’t sure how it would fit.
From there, we settled on the paint color. To ensure the space was relaxing, our team chose a dark paint color for the room. Initially, the dark walls felt like a big change for my clients. Because the room had a big window, I knew it would still be bright and open. With a vision clear in my head, I encouraged them to trust me as we moved forward. When the paint was complete, the clients agreed.

Their trust paid off further when they saw their bed’s new headboard made from—wait for it—the colorblock rug. We took the gorgeous rug, mounted it on plywood, added a custom wood frame with brackets on the back and secured it to the wall. The new headboard made the room look more grand with the appearance of taller ceilings. The couple trusted us to unleash our creativity on this project. This creative idea brought some bright color into the dark room, and gave my clients something to show off whenever they had guests in the house.
Because the headboard and poster brought vibrant patterns into the room, our team was careful not to add too much additional pattern to the walls and bed. We updated the knobs on the existing dressers, added some decorative sconces and hung a few subtle art pieces throughout the space. The room was really coming together.
But, as we looked around, we thought the ceiling could use a little something.
We partnered with Uniquely You Decor to create a beautiful mural that brought the design elements from the poster and rug onto the ceiling. The sweeping mural, created by Kaleigh Concannon, brought the room together. Kaleigh also used the poster as inspiration for a custom art piece of the client’s beloved cat, Cheese. The partnership with Kaleigh and personal Cheesey touch made the project more special.
The result is a bedroom that is relaxing and mature as it is vibrant and fun. It’s a trip to the Brazil World Cup every time you open your bedroom door! Thanks to the trust of our clients, this bedroom turned into a place where the couple could relax and unwind.
