Did you know that between Thanksgiving and the New Year Americans generate 25% more waste than they do the rest of the year? It’s true. Some of this waste includes holiday decorations—the kind bought and used for one season and one season only.
This year One of a Kind Interior Design partnered with Goodwill of Colorado for their Deck the Halls, Not the Landfills campaign to show how second hand shopping and donating can reduce trash during one of the most wonderful yet wasteful times of the year.
The challenge? To create a holiday tablescape using decorations found in our local Goodwill stores. Designers from One of a Kind Interior Design, Bountiful Collective and Saige Interiors were given $100 to create their holiday decor.

Reducing waste and reusing unique pieces is always top of mind for our team—whether we’re sourcing from environmentally conscious distributors or reimagining existing items for our clients to showcase in a new way. We know one of a kind style doesn’t need to break the bank.

It was clear that sustainability mattered to the other designers too. Check out what they found in our interview with Colorado and Company.
When Coloradans shop at or donate to their local Goodwill, they are supporting the environment and their community. More than 90% of Goodwill of Colorado’s revenue funds free job training, education and employment programs. That means that every item donated or dollar spent at Goodwill of Colorado goes right back to the communities you care about. It’s holiday shopping done right!
As you’re taking down your holiday decorations this month, think about what you can do to reduce waste to Deck the Halls, Not the Landfills next holiday season. Join us at Goodwill of Colorado and shop or donate to find holiday items that are as One of a Kind as you.
