Where Family Meets Flair
When our clients came to us, they were DONE with the hand-me-down dining room vibes and ready to bring in something fresh, fun, and grown-up. But with two kids, a bouncy dog, and a cat that insists on leaving their mark, it had to be durable! They host family gatherings, school parties, and plenty of get-togethers, so it was time to level up. We set out to create a dining room that was both fun and functional—a space that would stand the test of time (and paws, spills, and sticky fingers).

We learned some major gems about this family. The husband is a serious record collector with a vintage record player that needed a home. The wife had kept a New York subway poster from college, unsure of why it meant so much—until it became clear: it reminded her of home. We decided to make that subway poster the heart of the room.
Inspired by the poster, we pulled colors and shapes and created a design that reflected their eclectic and vibrant style. The home, a charming 1930s Tudor with delightful archways throughout, was the perfect trim accent backdrop for this eclectic, vibrant design. Eclectic mid-century modern pieces, a mix of old and new, were added to make the space both functional and stylish. We breathed new life into their sturdy, vintage chairs by reupholstering them in a bold, performance fabric that matched the subway poster’s colors—goodbye, sticky fingerprints! The wobbly table was replaced with a sleek, wipeable, scratch-resistant modern white table, perfect for family meals and school parties.
Two mid-century modern credenzas now house the husband’s record collection and vintage record player, adding both storage and style to the room. We painted two shades of blue on the walls to let that subway poster POP and make the room come alive with energy and personality. The existing art stayed, but we added personal family photos to fill out the walls and make it feel like home.

The rug brought the entire room together, tying in the colors of the poster while also being performance fabric to withstand any accidents from kids or pets. We replaced the massive cat tree with a chic window perch fit for royalty (because, obviously, the cat deserves it). Instead of traditional curtains—because, let’s be real, cats love to destroy them—we hung plants in gold metal ceiling tins, adding texture and color while keeping it feline-friendly and safe.
From a college storage room to an eclectic, mid-century modern gathering spot, this dining room now radiates personality, style, and comfort. It’s the perfect place for family dinners, parties, and memories that’ll last a lifetime.
